Who We Are

Founded as a Rotary project in Cebu Philippines, "Back to School" recognizes that every child counts and that every child should have the opportunity to Live, Love, Learn and Laugh. "Back to School" provides that opportunity creating a bridge to literacy through sponsor donations which help less fortunate children in Cebu to learn a way out of poverty.

Mentorship Makes it Work

A unique aspect and a big factor in the success of "Back to School" is the special mentor relationship established between Cebu Rotarians, the children and their families. The mentors work very hard to help the families understand the importance of sending their children to school. Their local knowledge and understanding of what will motivate the pupils to stay in school is a crucial factor in the success of "Back to School". At present the Rotarians in Cebu are working on a successful pilot program with approximately sixty children.

Experience A Growing Association Between Mentor, Sponsor and Pupil

The contact between mentor and sponsor can be an international friendship as they share a common interest in the well being of the pupil. The pupil will be asked to write to his sponsor, but only through the mentor and via Rotary in order to protect the privacy of the sponsor. The pupil's self esteem gets a big boost when they understand that their mentor, a Rotarian, cares about him/her and also that a sponsor in another part of the world does as well. Anyone can be a sponsor and membership in Rotary is not a requirement.

For the street children of Cebu, Philippines a donation from you starts a transformation from a life of desperation to a life of hope by providing education and awareness of their rights. Your love and donation for a child living in the slums of Cebu will help to alleviate their exposure to physical and sexual abuse, drugs, diseases and exploitation by criminal syndicates.

"Back to School" has been developed to lead children out of poverty through education and mentoring.
